Music in the Schools- John Hess

The music in the schools program was created many years ago by a join effort by the Women’s Symphony Association of Lancaster and the Greater Lancaster Federation of Musicans, Local 294. The Music in the Schools Group is made up of all local professional muscians and have been presenting programs to elementary age school children. Teaching them about different families of instruments. This year we are featuring Brass and Percussion families and next year will focus on the Woodwind family followed by the String family. In a three year cycle all of the orchestral instruments are covered and by grade 4 the students are able to choose an instrument to study. This program has been a huge success over the years. Some of the professional muscians now performing in the group started their muscial journey after they heard the Music in the Schools program when they were in grade school. The leader of the group is David Leitihmann a well known educator, private teacher, conductor in Lancaster County. This year the Music Performance Trust Fund is providing 100% fo the funds for this program so it is totally free for the schools.

Allegro Orchestra Lancaster

Since its first concert in 2002, Allegro Orchestra Lancaster has brought joyful music to the Lancaster community. Inspired by the vision of founder and Artistic Director Dr. Brian Norcross, Allegro Orchestra Lancaster embodies the classic definition of music by Catherine Drinker Bowen “as a conversation between friends”. Most of Allegro’s immensely talented professional players are from Lancaster County. Their love of great music, and of playing together, shows in every performance.
